When you want to know what is really going on
Sometimes you sense for a long time that something is wrong, without being able to name what it is. Perhaps you have already had conversations about it, perhaps you have even been given diagnoses that did not feel quite right. Perhaps you simply want clarity before taking the next step.
A clinical psychological assessment takes the time for this that is often missing in everyday medical or therapeutic practice. It is not a quick label, but a careful picture: What is present? What is not? And what does that mean for your treatment?
When an assessment makes sense
- You have had symptoms for some time, but no clear explanation for them.
- You are already in therapy and would like a well-founded basis for the work ahead.
- A previous evaluation felt too brief or too superficial to you.
- You need a written report — for ongoing treatment, a medical evaluation, reasonable adjustments in your studies, or an application.
- You wonder whether several things are playing a role at once, and you would like to tell them apart.
What can be assessed
Anxiety and depression
The nature, severity and course of depressive and anxiety-related symptoms — and the question of whether these constitute a disorder in their own right or are the consequence of something else.
ADHD in adulthood
Assessing ADHD in adults is more demanding than many people expect. Alongside current symptoms, it always requires a look back at childhood and, where possible, the perspective of someone close to you. This is precisely why such assessments often remain imprecise in everyday practice — and precisely why I take the time to do them thoroughly.
Personality and relationship patterns
Recurring patterns in relationships, in your sense of self, in how you handle emotions. This is less about a label than about understanding how you work — and where you can start making changes.
Stress, trauma and exhaustion
Distinguishing between burnout, states of exhaustion and trauma-related symptoms, which can look very similar from the outside but require different treatment.
Differential diagnosis
Often the real question is not "do I have X?" but "is it X or Y — or both?". Depression and ADHD, for example, overlap in many of their symptoms. Making this distinction is one of the main reasons a thorough assessment is worthwhile.
What to expect
1. Initial consultation
We clarify what brings you here, what your history looks like and what you hope to gain from the assessment. By the end of this appointment, I know which areas it makes sense to examine — and you know what lies ahead and how extensive it will be.
2. Testing
Structured interviews and scientifically validated questionnaires. Some of these you complete at home in your own time; the essential parts we do together.
3. Evaluation
Between appointments, I analyse the results and interpret them. This time is part of the assessment and is accounted for in the overall scope.
4. Feedback session and written report
You receive a detailed explanation of the results — in plain language, not in technical jargon. In addition, you receive a written clinical psychological report (english and german) with an interpretation of the findings and concrete recommendations for further treatment. You can present this report to your therapist or to a doctor.
Scope and fees
The scope depends on the question to be answered. Assessing anxiety and depressive symptoms is comparatively compact. Assessing ADHD in adulthood and assessing personality require more time, in part because your history since childhood is taken into account.
After the initial consultation, I will tell you the expected overall scope so that you can plan reliably. Only what genuinely leads somewhere is tested.
Fee: € 150 per unit (50 minutes).
Assessments are billed privately. Reimbursement by the statutory health insurance is currently not possible — the reimbursement amounts stated elsewhere on this website apply to clinical psychological treatment.
Good to know
As a clinical psychologist, I make clinical psychological diagnoses. Questions concerning medication require a medical or psychiatric evaluation — the report provides a sound basis for this.
Feel free to let me know in advance on what your appointment is about. I will get back to you and we will arrange the initial consultation.
